Zombies are undead, basic enemies which appear in several games of the Final Fantasy franchise, starting with Final Fantasy. Like other undead enemies, Zombies are weak to offense-based White Magic spells, such as Dia.
History
Final Fantasy
In Final Fantasy, Zombies are encountered in the Marsh Cave (floors B1 and B2) and present-day Chaos Shrine. They are vulnerable to Fire and Dia spells and drop a Staff when defeated. Zombies are unaffected by several spells. In the original Nintendo Entertainment System version, their name is capitalized ZOMBIE.
In the original Nintendo Entertainment System release, Zombies have a brown, turquoise, amd red-colored sprite. In the MSX2 version, their clothing was changed to yellow, and they have a blue skin color. Their appearance was fully established in the WonderSwan Color version, where they have a black cloak and dark yellow skin. In the Final Fantasy Origins remake, Zombies have a browner skin. In the Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls remake, their sprite is similar to their WonderSwan Color sprite except it is brighter, making their yellow skin more evident. In the PlayStation Portable version, their sprite is in a different pose, and they have brown skin similar to their Final Fantasy Origins sprite. They are also depicted with having a dark green cloak and short, purple hair. Zombies' red eyes are their only consistent attribute throughout every version.
Final Fantasy IV
In Final Fantasy IV, Zombies are first encountered in the Underground Waterway and later at Mount Ordeals. As undead enemies, they are resistant to darkness-based attacks. At the time of exploring the Underground Waterway, Cecil's direct attacks only deal 1 HP of damage to Zombies because he can only use darkness-based attacks.
