This article is about the ability used by Edgar in Final Fantasy VI. For the boss who was named Tools in earlier versions of the game, see Machine (Final Fantasy VI).

Tools is a special ability and a battle command that is first used by Edgar in Final Fantasy VI. This ability allows a character to select from a few mechanical devices to attack an enemy with. Each tool has a different effect.

History

Final Fantasy VI

In Final Fantasy VI, there are eight tools, and all of them are obtainable items. Tools are specifically used by Edgar, although it is also possible for Gogo to use a tool if he uses Mimic after Edgar has used that same tool. There is more than one way to obtain each tool, therefore making it possible for the party to have more than one of a tool. Every tool can be sold as an item. Using the Steal command on certain enemies is always one way to obtain a tool. Nearly every tool can be bought at Figaro Castle, where even more become available for purchase after the Narshe battle sequence. If Edgar is in the lead after the Narshe battle sequence or during the World of Ruin, the tools in Figaro Castle can be bought for half the price.

Auto Crossbow	Shoots arrows at all enemies, causing damage to all of them.	Automatically obtained when Edgar first joins the party. Can be bought at Figaro Castle for 250 gil (discount price: 125 gil). Can be stolen from Trapper and Metal Hitman (both with a 1/8 chance).
Noiseblaster	Causes a powerful sound blast that inflicts Confuse on every enemy.	Can be bought at Figaro Castle or at South Figaro's Weapon Shop for 500 gil (discount price: 250 gil). Can be stolen from the left Crane boss or a Junk (both with a 1/8 chance).
Bioblaster	Inflicts Poison on every enemy.	Can be bought at Figaro Castle or at South Figaro's Weapon Shop for 750 gil (discount price: 375 gil). Can be stolen from a Tunnel Armor (1/8 chance), a Chaser (7/8 chance) or an InnoSent (1/8 chance). Sometimes dropped by a Proto Armor (1/8 chance).
Flash	Inflicts Blind on every enemy.	Can be bought at Figaro Castle after the Narshe battle sequence for 1,000 gil (discount price: 500 gil). Can be stolen from a Destroyer or a Death Machine (both with a 1/8 chance).
Drill	A powerful attack in which Edgar uses a large drill on an enemy.	Can be bought at Figaro Castle after the Narshe battle sequence for 3,000 gil (discount price: 1,500 gil). Can be stolen from a Fortis (1/8 chance).
Chainsaw	A powerful attack in which Edgar cuts apart an enemy with a chainsaw. There is a 25% chance of it causing an Instant Death.	In Zozo, the party must go into the clock room and set the clock at 6:10.50. This reveals a staircase that leads up into a small, empty room with a treasure chest that contains a Chainsaw. Can be stolen from a Dueller (1/8 chance).
Debilitator	Inflicts a random elemental weakness on an opponent.	Can be bought at Figaro Castle in the World of Ruin for 5,000 gil (discount price: 2,500 gil). Can be stolen from the right Crane boss (1/8 chance).
Air Anchor	Causes an Instant Death on an opponent the next time they attack.	Found in a treasure chest in a room on floor 8F of the Cultists' Tower. Can be stolen from a Gamma (1/8 chance).
