Wolves are canine enemies that appear throughout the Final Fantasy series. They first appeared in Final Fantasy. Depending on the game, they are depicted as either yellow or orange. In the original Nintendo Entertainment System version, their name is capitalized WOLF. Wolves are often encountered in groups.
In the Nintendo Entertainment System version, Wolves have an orange sprite. In the MSX2 version, their sprite is entirely yellow. In the WonderSwan Color and Final Fantasy Origins versions, they have a gray head and legs, but their back and tail is orange. In Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, their sprite was brightened to a more gold color. Their back was made yellow in the PlayStation Portable version.
Wolves are encountered around the world map. They are found in the surrounding areas of Cornelia, Pravoka, Elfheim, Marsh Cave, Mount Duergar, Melmond, and the Cavern of Ice. They are also found in present-day Chaos Shrine, the Devil's Tail, and the Southern Marsh.
