This article is about the town. For the kingdom of the same name, see Baron (kingdom).

Baron, also known as Baron City[1] and the Town of Baron in the original Super Nintendo release, is a town and a starting location of Final Fantasy IV. It is the titular landmark location of the kingdom named Baron, and is ruled by a monarchy in Baron Castle. Baron is home to Cecil, Rosa, Cid, and their families.

History

At the start of their journey, Cecil and Kain are given a package to deliver to Mist. They go to Baron and purchase supplies from the Item Shop for the journey ahead.

After Cecil becomes a Paladin, he and three other party members (Palom, Porom, and Tellah) return from Mysidia to Baron via the Devil's Road. They find Yang in the bar, but he attacks the party because he had lost some of his memory after being attacked by a Leviatan. After defeating Yang, he regains his senses and joins the party. He also gives them the Baron Key, which the party use to open the entrance to Old Waterway and infiltrate Baron Castle. The key also allows them to access the shared Weapon & Armor Shops building.

Once the party has defeated Cagnazzo in Baron Castle, peace is restored to Baron.

Items

Some hidden items are hidden around Baron, within the ponds, trees and buildings.

Places

  • Cid's House: The home of Cid.
  • Devil's Road: Contains a warp portal that connects Mysidia and Baron. The portal is inaccessible unless the party warp to it from Mysidia. After doing so, they can walk a few steps down to open a hidden stone door.
  • Entrance to Old Waterway: Leads to the Old Waterway, which serves as an alternate route to Baron Castle.
  • Inn: Costs 50 gil a night to stay. There is also a pub on the upper floor, where two Baron Guardsmen and Yang are fought.
  • Rosa's House: The home of Rosa.
  • Training Room: This is where players can learn game basics. The Training Room is found on the lower floor of Devil's Road.
