Ice Storm, also formatted Icestorm and also known as a Snowstorm, is an ice-elemental ability used by several enemies in the Final Fantasy series. When an enemy uses this ability, they call forth strong winds that attack the whole party. Ice Storm first appears in Final Fantasy. The move mostly only appears in earlier Final Fantasy games, presumably because of its similarity to Blizzard and its more powerful variations.

History[edit]

Final Fantasy[edit]

In Final Fantasy, the move's name is formatted Icestorm. In the original Nintendo Entertainment System release, the spell had a stronger and a weaker version, named BLIZZARD and FROST respectively. In the same version, the actual blizzard move was named ICE. The move is used by Ahriman, Chronodia, Shinryu, Tiamat (in the Flying Fortress and Chaos Shrine), White Dragons, and Winter Wolves.

Final Fantasy II[edit]

In Final Fantasy II, the move is named Icestorm XVI, with the Roman numerals indicating it to be a level 16 ability. The move can be used by Ice Lizards, White Dragons, and Yamatano Orochis as well as two bosses, Phrekyos and Tiamat. A party member can also perform this ability by using an Antarctic Wind.
