Cloud using Omnislash in Final Fantasy VII

Omnislash (超究武神覇斬 Chōkyū Bushin Hazan?, lit. Super Extreme Martial God Supreme Slash) is one of Cloud Strife's signature moves. It first appears in Final Fantasy VII. The move involves Cloud using his sword, usually the Buster Sword, to rapidly slash his opponent repeatedly (the number of which varies per appearance), usually in midair, followed by him charging his sword before landing down a finishing blow on to his opponent. The number of times that Cloud slashes his opponent varies by appearance. Because of its power, Omnislash can instantly defeat most opponents.

Omnislash has an even stronger variation, Omnislash Ver. 5, which first appears in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

History[edit]

Final Fantasy VII[edit]

In Final Fantasy VII, Omnislash is a level 4 Limit Break and the final one that Cloud learns. He can learn the attack at the Gold Saucer's Battle Square by obtaining its manual, which becomes available once the Tiny Bronco has been obtained. Learning Omnislash costs 51,200 BP, or 32,000 BP once Cloud has obtained the Highwind.

When used, Omnislash deals 15 hits against randomly-selected enemies, inflicting heavy damage on them. Depending on Cloud's level, each strike may inflict a maximum amount of 9,999 damage.

Even if Cloud has not learned Omnislash, he still uses it during the final battle against Sephiroth. Since Cloud has a unique model in this battle, Omnislash itself appears slightly different when used than in other battles.

Kingdom Hearts series[edit]

Kingdom Hearts[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts, Cloud uses Omnislash while fighting Sora. He first generates an aura of red electricity around himself while spreading his wing, and then floats into the air and glides across the arena, attempting to slash at Sora three times, before returning to normal. Unlike in Final Fantasy VII, the slashes are done in slow succession.

Kingdom Hearts (Re): Chain of Memories[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and its remake, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Cloud also uses Omnislash while fighting Sora. It functions similarly as in the first Kingdom Hearts. This is the first Kingdom Hearts game where Sora can learn the move, which is done by clearing the Olympus Coliseum Room of Truth.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Omnislash is Cloud's Final Smash. When used, a colored text box reading "Omnislash" is shown, and Cloud rushes forward to slash an opponent up into the air where he then unleashes 15 sword strikes (just like in Final Fantasy VII) on the captured opponents before bringing them down to the ground. This causes a large explosion that launches the trapped and any nearby opponents. If Cloud does not strike an opponent with the first slash, the Final Smash fails. Like with Marth's Critical Hit, Cloud rushes forward until he reaches an opponent, the edge of a platform, or a set distance. Unlike Critical Hit, Omnislash cannot be stopped mid-execution.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, starting with version 10.1.0, Cloud can use Omnislash Ver. 5 as his Final Smash instead if his costume is designed after his Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children appearance. To reflect the update, Omnislash was renamed to "Omnislash / Omnislash Ver. 5" on the Move List.
