Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is a sequel/spin-off to Kingdom Hearts, originally released in 2004 on Game Boy Advance. The game takes place between the events of Kingdom and Kingdom Hearts II and fills in the gaps in the plot. The game departs from the previous game by being a sprite based isometric adventure game. Battles take place in special arenas and fighting is completely overhauled. Attacking enemies involves drawing random cards with values attached to each. The enemies do the same. The card with the highest priority wins and damage is done to the loser. Certain cards have special effects like guaranteed highest priority, spells and assists. The player can draw more cards, but it costs energy, and being too low on energy means the player has to wait and is vulnerable.

The game was fully remade in 2008 with Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories on PlayStation 2, which itself was remastered in 2013 as part of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix on PlayStation 3, which itself was remastered in 2017 as part of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 Remix on PlayStation 4.
