Elixirs (エリクサー Erikusā?) are a recurring restorative item in the Final Fantasy franchise, and first appear in Final Fantasy II. They restore the HP and MP of a party member or selected target. In some of their appearances, Elixirs also cure status effects. In most of their appearances, Elixirs restore all of a character's HP and MP, but in appearances in which it is only partial, Elixirs have an upgrade named Hi-Elixir that fully restores their HP and MP instead. Elixirs have a very rare upgrade named Megalixir that fully restores the HP of all party members.

Elixirs appear in several Square Enix titles outside of the Final Fantasy franchise, but the ones in which Megalixirs also appear suggests an indirect connection to the Final Fantasy franchise.

History[edit]

Final Fantasy series[edit]

Final Fantasy II[edit]

In Final Fantasy II, Elixirs are items commonly sold at Item Shops. However, they are very expensive and cost 50,000 gil each. Elixirs can be sold for half the price of 25,000 gil. The party can also obtain Elixirs from certain treasure chests, as an item drop from certain enemies, or as a possible reward for winning the Concentration minigame.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest[edit]

In Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, an Elixir appears as a key item. Benjamin obtains it from Tristam after clearing the Bone Dungeon, and later gives it to Kaeli to alleviate her from being poisoned.

Other appearances[edit]

Chrono Trigger[edit]

In Chrono Trigger, Elixirs retain their common purpose of restoring all HP and MP of a party member. They can be bought for 20,000 gold and sold for 10,000 gold. Likewise, Megalixirs fully restore the HP and MP of every party member.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[edit]

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, there are two items that have Elixir and Megalixir as their localized English names, respectively, but their names are entirely different in Japanese.

Kingdom Hearts series[edit]

Kingdom Hearts Wiki article: Elixir

In the Kingdom Hearts series, both Elixirs and Megalixirs make an appearance. Similar to Chrono Trigger, they retain their common purpose of fully restoring the HP and MP of a character or the entire party, respectively.
