Genji Shield (源氏の盾 Genji no Tate) is a type of shield in the Final Fantasy games. It first appears in Final Fantasy III. In several of its appearances, the Genji Shield is a very rare shield that enhances its user's Defense, Magic Defense, and Evasion. It often grants its user invulnerability to certain status effects. It also appears in the Kingdom Hearts series as a shield that can be wielded by Goofy.

Final Fantasy[edit]
In Final Fantasy, starting with the Game Boy Advance remake, there is one Genji Shield found in a treasure chest in Lifespring Grotto (floor B2). It can be equipped by the Knight, the Ninja, and the Warrior classes. It increases Defense by 14, Weight by 8, and Evasion by 50. It also grants invulnerability to Poison and Stone. Despite being one of the stronger shields, the Genji Shield can be sold for only 100 gil.
Final Fantasy V[edit]
In Final Fantasy V, there is one Genji Shield that can be stolen from Gilgamesh during the fifth battle against him, which takes place at the Interdimensional Rift. The Genji Shield provides 50% Evasion, 9 Defense, 1 Magic Defense, and 6 Weight. It also grants invulnerability to Mini and Paralyze.
Trivia[edit]
- In the Kingdom Hearts series, the Genji Shield used by Goofy is designed after its artwork from Final Fantasy V, especially in the first game.
