Ur is the first town visited in Final Fantasy III. It is the party's hometown (just Luneth and Arc's in the 3D remake).
Story[edit]
It is said that the four nameless youths who would become the Warriors of Light were raised as wards of the elder Topapa and their adoptive mother Nina. They ventured out from their home in the temple to explore the Altar Cave when the first earthquake struck and pulled them underground.
In the 3D remake, Cid brought two of the four children, Luneth and Arc, to Ur as their own world was enveloped in darkness by Xande's machinations. Once there, Topapa and Nina would raise the boys as their own. Luneth grew into a curious adventurer, while Arc, despite persistent bullying, was a budding scholar. Arc was also quite shy. He and Luneth became friends, and Luneth in turn would defend Arc from the local children who picked on him regularly.
Luneth set out on an adventure to the Altar Cave when an earthquake drew him underground. After exploring the cave, the Wind Crystal sends Luneth back to the surface to find three others to become Warriors of Light. He returns to Ur and finds Arc at the mercy of the local bullies once more and scares them off. The two chat briefly, and Arc joins Luneth on his new quest. Thus does the pair leave their hometown with their guardians' blessing.
When the Cloud of Darkness is slain at last, the warriors return to their hometowns with a sense of pride.

Etymology[edit]
Ur was one of the first known human settlements in ancient Mesopotamia (present day Iraq). Many towns and villages in Final Fantasy III are likewise named after classical cities.
