The Tantalus Theater Troupe is a group of thieves who masquerade as performers to hide their thievery. The group is led by Baku, and Zidane is part of the group at the start of the game. The Tantalus Theater Troupe's first and main appearance is in Final Fantasy IX, and they have since been mentioned in a few other Final Fantasy games.

In Final Fantasy remakes starting with Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, the Tantalus Theater Troupe is mentioned by a dancer in Lifespring Grotto. She says that she is practicing to clear their tryouts.
