Moggle carrying a Doom Stone

Magic Stones are pick-up items that are found on the courses in Chocobo Racing. They are the game's equivalent to Item Boxes from the Mario Kart series. There are nine types of Magic Stones, each with their own ability to either hinder opponents or enhance its user. Racers can carry up to three Magic Stones at once. A racer can steal an opponent's Magic Stones if they crash into them. To use a Magic Stone, the player must press R1 button.

There are Magic Stones that can be powered up, so if a second and third Magic Stone of an identical type are picked up directly after the first Magic Stone, both of them are absorbed into it, causing the first Magic Stone to start flashing to indicate its increase in magical power. Although this creates one Magic Stone, it is still equivalent to holding two or three Magic Stones.

Variants[edit]

Image Name Color[1] Description
Haste Magic Stone.jpg Haste Turquoise Casts Haste, which gives the racer a brief burst of speed, similar to the Dash ability. Activating two and three of them casts Haste2 and Haste3 respectively, both further increasing the duration of the speed boost. Haste Stones are turquoise and depict a purple up arrow.
Fire Magic Stone.jpg Fire Red Casts Fire, which shoots a fireball in a straight line. If a racer is hit by the fireball, they crash. Two of them casts Fira, which shoots a homing fireball at the nearest racer, and three of them casts Firaga, which shoots homing fireballs every other racer.
Ice Magic Stone.jpg Ice Blue Casts Blizzard, which drops a patch of ice on the ground. Two of them casts Blizzara, which drops six patches of ice on the ground, and three of them casts Blizzaga, which causes all opponents to spin out and crash.
Thunderbolts Magic Stone.jpg Thunderbolts Green Casts Thunder, which causes a lightning bolt to be blasted at an opponent, with a 60% chance of hitting them. Activating two allocated Thunder Stones casts Thundara, which fires three lightning bolts at opponents with an 80% hit rate. Activating three allocated Thunder Stones casts Thundaga, which fires six lightning bolts at opponents with a 100% hit rate.
Minimize Magic Stone.jpg Minimize Purple Casts Mini, which diminishes all opponents to 75% of their original speed and size. Activating two allocated Mini Stones casts Mini2, in which all opponents are diminished to 50% of their original speed and size. Activating three allocated Mini Stones casts Mini3, diminishing all opponents to 25% of their original speed and size; this allows racers to run over and flatten them.
Reflect Magic Stone.jpg Reflect Magenta Casts Reflect, which reflects a spell cast by an opponent to return its effect back to the opponent. Unlike other Magic Stones, Reflect Stones do not increase in power if more than one is collected, but are instead stored behind the racer.
Doom Magic Stone.jpg Doom Brown Casts Doom on the user, causing a 10-second timer to appear over the racer. Once the timer runs out, the racer crashes, although they can bump into another racer to get rid of the curse before the timer runs out. Like Reflect Stones, Doom Stones do not increase in power if more than one is collected, but are instead stored behind the racer. Doom Stones are brown and depict a human skull.
Ultima Magic Stone.jpg Ultima White Casts Ultima, which causes all opponents to spin uncontrollably. Activating two of them casts Ultima2, which causes all opponents to crash, and three of them casts Ultima3, causing all opponents to crash even further.
