Spellblade is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy franchise. It first appears in Final Fantasy V. As the name suggests, Spellblade allows the player to endow an equipped weapon with a magic spell.

History[edit]

Final Fantasy series[edit]

Final Fantasy V[edit]

In Final Fantasy V, Spellblade is classified as a type of magic. It is an ability used by Mystic Knights to endow an equipped sword with an offensive magic spell (such as Flare or Holy), or with status-harmful spells (such as Poison or Sleep). Holy and Silence are the only two White Magic spells that can be applied to a Spellblade. When a user strikes their target with the Spellblade, the target is both engulfed by the spell and sliced by the blade.

Final Fantasy IX[edit]

In Final Fantasy IX, it is a combination attack between Vivi the black mage and Steiner the knight.

Final Fantasy XI[edit]

In Final Fantasy XI Red Mages can cast En-spells (examples: Enfire, Enwater, etc.) onto their own weapons.

Final Fantasy Tactics series[edit]

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance[edit]

In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, the Gladiator class has the Spellblade ability.

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of The Lions[edit]

In Final Fantasy Tactics: War of The Lions, Beowulf and Aliste have the Spellblade command.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII[edit]

The Spellblade ability is also used by Genesis in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
