Final Fantasy II
This article is about the second installment of the Final Fantasy series. For the second installment in North America, where it was named Final Fantasy II, and the fourth game in the series overall, see Final Fantasy IV. |
Final Fantasy II is the second installment of the Final Fantasy series. The game was developed and published by Square for the Famicom in 1988, exclusively in Japan. A North American localization of the original Famicom released was planned but cancelled partway into the translation process. It also had a standalone release for the WonderSwan Color, PlayStation Portable, and iOS/Android phones. As neither this game nor Final Fantasy III were initially released outside Japan, Final Fantasy IV was originally released in North America as Final Fantasy II, so as not to confuse players.
Final Fantasy II was bundled with its predecessor, Final Fantasy I, for a few compilations, including Final Fantasy I∙II, Final Fantasy Origins, and Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls. Final Fantasy Origins was the first time that Final Fantasy II was released in North America and Europe.
