Shops are areas where the player can purchase new items, such as weapons, armor, magic, healing items, and more.

Final Fantasy[edit]

In releases of Final Fantasy before Origins, shops were not a distinct map that the player can move around in, but a menu showing an image of the party inside of the shop's interior. In addition to armor, weapon, and item shops, there are shops dedicated to either black or white magic, sometimes with different spell levels in their own shop from the others.

Final Fantasy II[edit]

Starting in Final Fantasy II, shops are now actual locations the player can move around in, and are sometimes occupied with important characters or townspople who provide the player with background or gameplay information.
