KO is a status effect in many Final Fantasy games that is entered when a party member's hit points (HP) is fully depleted. They are unable to act until they are revived or in newer games, the party leaves the battle; KO'd party members will be revived with a single hit point (1 HP). If all party members are KO'd or otherwise rendered permanently unable to act (i.e. turned to stone or zombified), the player is given a Game Over.

The status can be cured by reviving party members in a Sanctuary, using a Phoenix Down, or using an inn after Final Fantasy III, where KO'd party members will not only be revived but have their HP and MP fully restored.
