Freelancer is a recurring job in the Final Fantasy series. In games with job systems, it generally has no special abilities and represents the lack of a job, and tends to be the characters' starting job before the player has access to more. It first appears as the default job in Final Fantasy V.

History[edit]

Final Fantasy III (3D remake)[edit]

The Freelancer replaces the Onion Knight as the default job. Freelancers have access to level 1 magic spells and can equip a diverse range of equipment meant for different classes, but are not proficient in much.

Final Fantasy V[edit]

The Freelancer is the default, unequipped job for each of the five warriors. Consequently, it cannot gain ABP, but can equip all weapons and armor without penalties or bonuses. Freelancers can equip up to two abilities from other jobs, and will inherit all innate passives from other mastered jobs.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[edit]

The Freelancer appears as the default, universal job class for all eight warriors.
