Crystals are elemental stones that appear in several Final Fantasy games, especially earlier titles, and make their debut appearance in the first Final Fantasy. There are usually four Crystals: the Earth Crystal, Wind Crystal, Fire Crystal, and Water Crystal, which control the element of Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water respectively. Because of this, the Crystals are very powerful, and they maintain balance within the world. In their appearances, Crystals frequently play a central role because they are highly coveted by the main villain, who wishes to claim the Crystals and take control of their power, so during the heroes' adventure, as the Crystals become compromised, the world is thrown into chaos.
