The PlayStation 4 is the fourth home console in Sony's PlayStation line. It is the successor to the PlayStation 3, and it was first released in 2013. The PlayStation 4 would become the best selling console of its generation at about 116 million units sold, greatly outpacing its competition. Sony learned from its mistakes from the PlayStation 3 by both making the system easier to develop for and heavily advertise consumer friendly practices that Microsoft was refusing to do at the time. While the Final Fantasy franchise still appeared as multi-platform titles, the PlayStation 4 versions were often seen as the definitive console versions.
