In Final Fantasy VII Remake, Tifa first met Cloud and Barret during the "Home Sweet Slum" chapter after their successful mission to bomb Mako Reactor 1. Cloud surprised Tifa with a flower, and she guided him to his rented room at Stargazer Heights, an apartment complex owned by the landlady Marlene, who had become a mentor to Tifa. When Cloud inquired about his payment, Tifa apologized for the delay but assured him he would be compensated the next day if he helped collect money for the water filters they sold.

The following day, Cloud accompanied Tifa to gather the funds, during which she imparted life lessons about living in the slums. With Barret still out on his rounds, Tifa suggested Cloud take on mercenary work to build connections in the community. Together, they assisted the neighborhood watch in defeating monsters in Scrap Boulevard and helped other residents under Wymer's guidance. Back at Tifa's apartment, she asked Cloud about his time after leaving Nibelheim, but Cloud gave vague responses and seemed uneasy. Changing the subject, Tifa proposed they celebrate by dressing up for a night out. Later, they encountered Johnny being harassed by Shinra's Public Security, and Tifa insisted on helping him to prevent any leaks about Avalanche. Despite wanting to go alone, Cloud accompanied her, and Tifa had to stop him from killing Johnny, shocked by his cold demeanor.

Back at the bar, Tifa made Cloud a drink. Though he was reserved about the first cocktail, he enjoyed the Cosmo Canyon house special. Tifa then joined Barret for a meeting, opting out of the Mako Reactor 5 mission due to differing opinions, and Barret decided not to rehire Cloud. After the meeting, Cloud asked Tifa about her second thoughts, prompted by Jessie's comments. Tifa expressed her internal conflict, knowing the group needed to think big to make a difference despite her reservations. She still joined in the celebration. The next morning, in "Mad Dash," Tifa and Cloud fought off the Whispers attacking the town. After Jessie was injured, Barret rehired Cloud to replace her and asked Tifa to join the mission instead of Wedge.

In "Dogged Pursuit," Tifa, Barret, and Cloud embarked on their next mission. When their IDs failed during a train scan, Tifa helped evacuate passengers from a locked-down car and reassured a confused Shinra Middle Manager that she was focused on saving lives, not his affiliation. Forced to jump from the moving train into the Corkscrew Tunnel, Tifa thanked Cloud for cushioning her fall. The trio navigated through the tunnel to reach the Sector 4 plate, starting the "Light the Way" chapter. Tifa hesitated to deactivate the sun lamps, knowing it would cut off the undercity's light, but agreed, considering the immense Mako consumption and the lamps' inevitable shutdown after the reactor's destruction. She expressed concern for Jessie, but Barret reminded her that fighting was the best way to help.

At Mako Reactor 5 in "A Trap Is Sprung," Tifa planted a bomb with the others. Heidegger appeared on a hologram, revealing their broadcast on TV to frame Avalanche as public enemies and boost Shinra's popularity. Though initially disheartened, Barret rallied them to give Shinra the spectacle they wanted. Tifa suggested removing the AI programming cores to slow down the mech, Airbuster. Reaching the reactor's end, Tifa helped coordinate disabling an emergency lock. After defeating Airbuster, President Shinra appeared on a hologram, threatening to detonate the reactor and blame Wutai. Tifa destroyed the holographic drones in frustration, and as the Airbuster exploded, Cloud was separated from the group. Tifa desperately reached out to him as he fell, but Barret carried her away.

Back in the slums, Tifa encountered hoodlums working for Don Corneo and decided to track him down. She planned to audition for a role at Corneo's mansion, recommended by Chocobo Sam, who was confident she would be selected. On her way, she was relieved to see Cloud but asked him not to worry, reminding him of her combat prowess. Tifa found herself joined by Cloud, disguised as a woman, and Aerith, a friend he met in the slums. Surprised, Tifa explained her plan, worried about not being picked for the audition. However, with Cloud and Aerith as the other candidates, they secured information from Corneo. Corneo initially favored Tifa but chose Cloud after his remarks. Tifa and Aerith defeated Corneo's lackeys and, with help from Leslie Kyle, hurried to rescue Cloud. They interrogated Corneo, who revealed Shinra's plan to drop the Sector 7 plate, horrifying Tifa. Corneo then dropped them into the sewers.

In "Rough Waters," Tifa, Aerith, and Cloud defeated Corneo's pet, Abzu, and rushed to return to Sector 7. Tifa was agitated by Corneo's words, hoping he was lying. She led the group through the tunnels, distressed but cheered up by Aerith, who suggested thinking about post-pillar plans. Tifa wanted to go shopping topside with Aerith, with Cloud carrying their purchases. Noticing Aerith knew something they didn't, Tifa took Cloud's arm in the haunted Train Graveyard, seeking comfort due to her fear of ghosts.

In "Fight for Survival," Tifa was mortified to see the pillar under attack. Whispers slowed her down as she ran toward it. After ensuring Wedge's safety, she asked Aerith to protect Marlene. Encouraged by Aerith, Tifa followed Cloud up the pillar, finding Jessie dying and shedding tears. Rejoining Barret, they fought Rude and Reno but couldn't stop the plate from falling, forcing them to evacuate.

In "A Broken World," Tifa joined a grieving Barret, feeling responsible for the plate's fall. Barret reminded her that Shinra was to blame. Cloud reassured Tifa that Marlene would be safe with Aerith's help. At Elmyra Gainsborough's house, they found Marlene and learned about Aerith's Cetra heritage. Cloud wanted to rescue Aerith, but Elmyra objected, and Tifa agreed, hoping Shinra would soon release her.

In "In Search of Hope," Tifa, Barret, and Cloud returned to Sector 7's ruins, discovering a secret Shinra testing facility. They found Wedge and took him to Aerith's place to recover. That night, Tifa met Cloud in Aerith's garden, revealing the flower he gave her symbolized reunion. She lamented losing everything to Shinra and burst into tears, comforted by Cloud. The next morning, they convinced Elmyra to let them rescue Aerith.

Needing a way topside, Tifa suggested chasing Corneo again. They helped undercity residents, including Johnny, who decided to leave Midgar unless Tifa asked him to stay; she wished him luck instead. Competing with Andrea Rhodea in a pull-up contest, Tifa thanked him for the challenge. Leslie Kyle agreed to help them reach topside if they helped him settle a score with Corneo. Tifa reminded Leslie of Cloud's threat if he betrayed them but was otherwise supportive, remembering his past help. They failed to capture Corneo, but Tifa encouraged Leslie, telling him his fiancée was still out there. Leslie gave them grappling guns to reach topside. Tifa told Cloud he was kind deep down, agreeing with Barret that being a mercenary suited him.

In "The Belly of the Beast," they infiltrated the Shinra Building, with Tifa using her acrobatic skills to obtain a keycard. They received covert assistance from Mayor Domino. Depending on Cloud's choice, they either climbed the emergency stairwell or took the elevator, encountering soldiers and employees. Tifa remarked on the humanity of Shinra employees, though Barret saw them as complicit. Disguised as tourists, Tifa suspected things were too easy and was disgusted by President Shinra's self-aggrandizing exhibition. Eavesdropping on a Shinra executive meeting, they rescued Aerith from Professor Hojo and met Red XIII, who joined them.

In "Deliverance from Chaos," Aerith told them about her Cetra heritage and the Whispers' role. Tifa suspected Aerith knew more and promised to help her figure it out. Domino and Wedge informed them that Avalanche HQ would extract them. Hojo trapped them in the Drum, where Tifa and Aerith worked together to navigate the maze. They followed a trail of black liquid to President Shinra's office, finding him hanging off the skyscraper. Tifa asked Barret not to kill him, but Sephiroth appeared, killing both the president and Barret. After defeating Jenova Dreamweaver, the group tried to leave but were shot down by Rufus Shinra. Cloud urged the others to escape while he fought Rufus. Tifa rescued Cloud from falling and scolded him for playing the hero. They stole Shinra vehicles to escape.

In "Destiny's Crossroads," Tifa drove a pick-up truck with Aerith as a passenger while Barret and Red XIII were in the back, with Cloud on a motorcycle. They confronted Sephiroth at the end of the expressway, entering a portal to the Singularity. After defeating the Whispers, they helped Cloud fight Sephiroth, who disappeared. Tifa agreed to follow Cloud in pursuit of him.
