World of Ruin
The World of Ruin is the name of the world during the second half of Final Fantasy VI. Formerly the World of Balance, it became the World of Ruin after Kefka disrupted the balance of the Warring Triad. In the World of Ruin, the continents have been rearranged, towns have been destroyed, most areas are a wasteland, and both undead and poisonous monsters are found everywhere.
Gameplay-wise, the World of Ruin is more non-linear than the World of Balance. It starts with Celes, who goes on a quest to find her friends after they were separated by the World of Balance's destruction. The player can complete World of Ruin with only three characters: Celes, Edgar, and Setzer.
