The Wii is a home console created by Nintendo as the successor to the Nintendo GameCube. It was released in late 2006, during the seventh generation, and its two main competitors were the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The main gimmick and selling point of the Wii is its motion detection through its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which the user can use in conjunction with the Wii Sensor Bar to move a cursor around on screen for gameplay and other forms of interactivity. Like the Nintendo DS, the Wii also utilized the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service to connect online, but this would no longer become possible when the service closed on May 20, 2014.
The Wii had its own online shop, the Wii Shop Channel, which featured a library of downloadable titles. Any games that were developed specifically for the Wii Shop Channel had the WiiWare brand, and ports of games from older home consoles were released under the Virtual Console brand. On January 30, 2019, the Wii Shop Channel was closed, making it no longer possible to purchase any titles from it.
Original Wii models are backward compatible with Nintendo GameCube titles, including Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. They have four controller ports and two Memory Card slots on top to allow for compatibility. In 2011, a second model was released, the Wii Family Edition, which removes all compatibility with Nintendo GameCube software, including the controller ports and Memory Card slots on original models. In 2012, a third model was released, the Wii mini, which also lacks Nintendo GameCube compatibility, and it also removes the ability to connect online.
The Wii would later receive a successor, the Wii U, which was released in 2012.
Games[edit]
Three Final Fantasy titles were released for the Wii, and all of them are spinoff titles. There is also a Mario spinoff title with some Final Fantasy characters.
- Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon (2008): The first Final Fantasy title to have been released for the Wii. It is a Mystery Dungeon title which is part of the Chocobo series.
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (2009): A title within the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series; it was also released for the Nintendo DS, and Square Enix's Pollux Engine allowed for players of either version to play together online via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (2009): A game within the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series that features action-adventure gameplay.
- Mario Sports Mix (2010): Some Final Fantasy characters make a guest appearance in the game. Several of them return from Mario Hoops 3-on-3 as playable characters.
WiiWare[edit]
Four Final Fantasy games were released as WiiWare titles:

- Crystal Defenders (2009)
- Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (2009)
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord (2009)
Virtual Console[edit]
The original six main series titles and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest were ported to the Virtual Console. Two Famicom titles, Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III, and one Super Famicom title, Final Fantasy V, were only ported to the Virtual Console in Japan, just like how their original versions were exclusive to Japan.
