Bravely Default: Where the Fairy Flies is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Silicon Studios and published by Square Enix for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012 in Japan. A slightly enhanced version, titled Bravely Default: For the Sequel, was released in 2013. This version was used as the basis for the localized release, which was simply titled Bravely Default, although the title screen has the game's subtitle, Where the Fairy Flies.
The game is a successor to the Nintendo DS game Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. A direct sequel, Bravely Second: End Layer, released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. Another sequel, Bravely Default II, released for the Nintendo Switch on February 26, 2021.
Gameplay
The battle system is purely turn-based, like the Famicom installments. However, characters can build up Brave Points (BP) to use during battle by defending using the "Default" command. Stored BP can be used via the "Brave" command to perform multiple actions in one turn.
The game also makes use of the job system, which mostly works just as how it did in Final Fantasy V. New jobs are obtained by getting "Asterisks", which are obtained by defeating certain bosses who are of said job.
